General Practitioners treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment.

They focus on the health of the whole person, combining physical, psychological and social aspects of care.

All Advanced Practitioners are highly qualified individuals who have undertaken extra academic qualifications and have gained extensive knowledge and experience in their field.

Some have a nursing, paramedic, or pharmacy background and all have expertise in a broad area of medicine.

Advanced Practitioners speak with and see patients with a wide variety of medical issues, from more minor ailments to, depending on experience, more complex issues that arise.

The consultation will include taking a full history of the medical problem, examining patients, initiating any investigations deemed appropriate, diagnosing, and treating or referring on to a specialist as required.

All this is undertaken with the safety net of support from their GP colleagues, who can be called upon and who offer support if the Advanced Practitioner feels they need advice or a second opinion.

Advanced Practitioners are now an integral part of the wider medical infrastructure and have been used in Primary Care, General Practice and Secondary Care for many years. Patients can feel confident that they will be offered a good quality of service if offered an appointment to see such a practitioner.

Our practice nurses run clinics that monitor the health of people with diabetes, asthma, menopause and cervical screening, also known as smears.

They provide other equally essential preventative services such as childhood immunisation, family planning, smoking cessation, dietary advice, health checks, blood pressure readings, ear syringing, dressings and removal of stitches.

Clinics and treatment room sessions are by appointment.

Our reception and administration team will make appointments for you, take requests for visits and repeat prescriptions, give you results of tests when appropriate, answer your queries and offer help and assistance at all times.

They do a difficult job well. Please remember, information they may ask for will be treated in the strictest of confidence, as they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors.

Our GPs will direct appropriate patients to our pharmacy team if they feel that their specialist knowledge of medicines would be most helpful to the patient.
